ete beginners, up to grade 8 and beyond.
Lessons are tailored to suit the individual, and given that the pupil applies themself and practices, satisfactory results will be achieved in a reasonably short space of time. Throughout the whole process, the main theme is that music making should be fun, enjoyable and rewarding.
I am CRB registered and teach guitar at Adams' Grammar School, Newport, Shrophire, St. Dominic's School, Brewood and Moffat's School, Kinlet, Shropshire.
Playing a musical instrument focuses the mind very effectively, and helps the student to switch off from everyday stresses and strains. Lessons are charged at £12.00 per half hour.

Starting lessons is easy and attendance is normally expected once a week at a regular agreed time for progress to be made. They continue throughout the year and you don't have to be a beginner. Whatever your ability, with your input and my experience we can work together to improve your skills. Adult or child beginners, more advanced players or those wanting to brush up a rusty technique are more than welcome.
My aim is to provide focused, regular weekly tuition in a relaxed atmosphere. I teach pupils how to read music and ensure that they have a sound basic knowledge of Music Theory.
For classical guitar tuition, I use the 'Solo Guitar Playing Tutorial, by Fredrick Noad.'
This book guides pupils through the basic fundamentals of guitar technique, i.e, tuning, hand positions,
posture and different finger strokes.
At the same time, it teaches them the rudaments of written music, and progresses through to an advanced stage by means of a series of graded exercises and music scores. I have found this a most affective tutorial for all ages and abilities. For electric guitar tuition, I use the 'Rockschool' Series of books. These again, take students from basic techniques up to an advanced level via scores and CD backing tracks that can be played over by the student.

An example lesson would normaly be on a one to one basis, and consist of myself playing a series of exercises or a piece of music from the tutorial. The student would then be taken through the same piece; step by step, picking out any areas for specific attention.
They will then practice the given music throughout the following week, and at the next lesson any problems can be identified. This promotes a steady progress and a firm foundation in technical ability, music reading and artistic development.

Practicle examinations can be taken, and although they are not compulsory, they do give a student a guide to ability and progress. The exams are taken through Trinity College London examinations board, and are graded initial up to grade 8.
It's also worth noting that higher grades count as extra UCAS points for application to Universities.
The exams consist of five separate elements :
Three pieces of graded music, chosen by the candidate.
Technical exercises, (pre-prepaired exercises in scales, arpeggios, etc.)
Aural tests, (ear tests.)
Viva Voce, (spoken answers in reply to questions about the scores of the
three chosen pieces of music.)
Electric guitar exams are taken through the Rockschool examinations board. These follow a similar format to the classical exams but students play over a backing track on a CD.
Fees are currently £12.00 per half hour lesson.
